You drop back a bit and fall into step beside Cynthia. She glances your direction slightly before returning to staring ahead into space, only breaking to glance behind the both of you every once in a while. She seems to be content to simply walk without talking. You, however, are not; it feels somewhat awkward.
"Hey, uh, thanks for coming out here with me. I know you could've just stayed in there, safe..." You say, your speech stumbling out.
She simply shrugs and continues on. You sigh.
"You're hard to talk to, you know that?"
She shrugs again, this time looking down the smallest bit more and mumbling a 'sorry' you're barely able to catch.
"No big deal... It's just I swear the only point I'd know that you'd been attacked by one of those things is when you start trying to bite my shins off," you joke. She smiles slightly and returns to staring forward. The two of you walk in silence a while longer, then you speak again, growing business like.
"Seriously though, if you need anything, feel free to ask."
She looks at you now, those piercing blue-grey eyes locking in.
"Really?" She asks with a somewhat skeptical cautiousness.
Geez... It's like she's not looking at me... but more into me...
Catching yourself hesitating due to the thought, you recover as quickly as you can.
"Of course. I kinda owe you twice now, don't I?" You smile, but she simply nods slightly and turns her gaze back up front.
You find that the group is just around the corner from the cavernous cafeteria. Quiet low moans sound from further in. Randy makes like to simply march around the edge inside, but John grabs him and pulls him back. He then pokes his head slowly around, trying to remain unnoticed. Turning back, he whispers to the rest of you.
"There's a handful of them in the way. Not too many around the sides though. We could just snea-" He's interrupted by a particularrly loud moan behind the group. Everyone turns to see a lone zombie in the hall they had just come through. Then, another lurched into view from one of the rooms. Then another. Soon, there's 8 or 9 of them, coming straight at the group.
A) Abandon the plan to get into the cafeteria, and flee down another hallway. B) Move straight through the sparse zombie crowd to kitchen, with you, Bate, and Randy in the lead. The three of you can shove the unsuspecting zombies out of the way, clearing a path for the others. C) Move along the outside edge around the zombies in the way. It'll take longer, but walking straight into the zeds is just foolish. D)Try to convince someone to distract the zeds in the caf so the others can get by. Z) CYOA
If D: 1) Yourself 2) Bates 3) Randy 4) The odd kid 5) Cynthia 6) Lauren

Z. A mix of some. Convince Randy that the quickest way to the food is straight through the zombies. The weird kid takes out a shank and him and Bates takes the lead through the side of the hall towards the cafeteria. While John stays close behind with the ladies.

"Look, nobody panic," you say, "We'll go along the outside edge at a jog. Just keep quiet and don't run. No need to attract the other one's attention too soon. Let's move!" You lead the way, going at a quick jog. You hear the rest of the group follow after. You make it about three-fourths of the way around without the main group of zombies in the cafeteria noticing you. When the original swarm shambles in, though, they all seemingly instantly know where you are. The mass of them all start their slow stumble in your direction. "Shit! Run!" You let some of the others pass by before picking up again, just in case one gets in trouble. You hear a snap and then a scream behind you. You look over your shoulder to see Lauren sprawled across the floor, her high-heeled shoe having broken during the run. You see a zombie shambling towards her from the side. Bates, who was behind you, swears and skids to a halt, turning back. You trust he can take care of it and turn your attention back front. Ahead, you see a zombie shambling from the side, trying to cut you off. It stands a good 15 feet from the door leading to the kitchen. Cynthia, who had managed to get in the lead, is focused entirely on the safety offered by that threshold, not seeing the flesh eating abomination entirely. The others seem to be in a similar state of panic. You are about to call out, but it's too late. The zed lunges another few feet, its hands latching onto her arm. With a small shriek of surprise, her momentum carries her onward, sending the pair tumbling forward with a 'sstffffff' noise you're unable to identify. She lands face down, five feet from her attacker. Randy and the other one go trampling right by, reaching their sanctuary and diving inside, closing the door behind them. You sprint harder, desperation closing in. You grab Cynthia by the back of her hoodie and haul her to her feet. Not even pausing to let her re-gain her balance, you half-drag her to the door. You yank on the handle, but it doesn't give more than an inch. Someone's holding it from the other side. "Let us in you fucking bastards!!!" You tug again, but with nothing new. Just as you know they're going to leave you out here to die, the pressure eases off, and you yank the door open. Shoving Cynthia inside, you turn and hold the door. Bates, carrying a screaming Lauren in his arms, is ponderously running towards you, several zombies in his wake. He leaps past, and you pull the door shut just in time. ======= The next few minutes went by in an adrenaline filled blur. You remember holding the door and yelling for the others to get something to barricade with. It seemed like forever, with the pounding of the undead rattling you through the door. You were dimly aware of a screeching sound behind you, but were more concentrated on the zombies just outside. Then they were there, the three of them having managed to get a fridge. Between the three of them, they shoved the economy sized piece of school equipment into the doorway, you managing to jump out of the way before it crunches you. You all immediately start grabbing smaller things: Microwaves, carts, worktables, and fully barricade the door. ======= Hands shaking from the adrenaline rush, you body finally seems to realize it's safe. For now. You look around, finding yourself alone in the small section of the room. A) Check up on Cynthia, you still aren't sure if she's alright, and she disappeared once you got her inside. B) Find Lauren, she sounded like she was hurt. C) Go help Bates scout out the rest of the kitchen. Make sure no other undead are looking for a snack. D) You want to chew out Randy, his cowardly action almost got you killed. E) Look for that odd kid. Better get to know him if you might have to put your life in his hands. F) That rush left you tired as hell. A nap sounds good. Z) CYOA Pick two. In order of what you want them. (Obviously not F first.... >_>)

You decide to look into what happened to Lauren, she was defiantly hurt. You find her laid on the ground, resting on Bate's jacket. She looks pale through the spray-on tan, and her right ankle is wrapped in what you're sure is a blood-soaked piece of John's shirt. Her eyes lazily track you across the room as you come up and kneel down beside her.
"Hey... Uh, you alright?" She looks at you a moment, as though she hasn't heard. When she does speak, it's as though from far off.
"Yea.... Twisted my... ankle..... Thing.... bit the other..... John kicked it off.... I think most of my ankle went with it......" She's in shock. You look to the bloody make-shift bandage, not really wanting to know what it looks like underneath. Lauren's eyes turn skyward and slip close. You'd thought she'd died, if not for her shallow breath.
Curiosity gets the better of you. Your hands gently move to the tied cloth, preparing to undo it, when a voice comes from behind you.
"Don't, man. You don't wanna see... The zombie got the bone... took most of it with him when I punted him off.... Her foot-" Bates catches himself, as though trying to regain composure, before continuing at a bare whisper, "Her foot's hanging on by only a little bit of muscle and skin......"
You slowly pull your hands back. Curiosity seems to have shut it's cat-killing mouth. "So what do we do?" You ask, already basically knowing the answer.
"We can't really do anything. I searched all through here. Plenty of food. No medicine. All we can really do is make her comfortable...." His voice rises to almost a squeak near the end.
He's blaming himself. The insight comes from no where...
"Go check on the other one. I saw her get hit too.... I'll take care of Lauren....." He kneels down beside you as you stand. Looking back from the doorway, you see him brush a stray strand of her face with care. Stomach queasy, you turn and walk off.
You first find Randy near the freezer, eagerly looking around for something to eat.
"Hey, Randy. You seen Cynthia around here?" You say, keeping in check the anger of him almost locking you out.
"Who?" He asks, having found where the box of microwave burritos lay.
"Arg... Nevermind..." Your neck itches, so you scratch it absentmindedly as you move on.
You finally find here curled up in a isolated corner, wedged between the floor-bolted stove and the wall. She's sitting nearly in the fetal position, head on her knees, her left arm shoved deep into the pouch in her hoodie. Seeing this, Something Heavy sinks in your stomach.
Oh man.... She's been bitten...
"Hey, uh, Cynthia. You alright?" She looks up slowly, and you see that tears have recently streaked her face. Another Something Heavy settles beside the first.
"Fine.... fine...." She nods with each word. Her arm remains tucked inside her hoodie.
"You sure? I saw it grab you... heard this weird 'sttfff' noise..."
"Oh.. That... It just ripped my sleeve... I'm fine....." She seems to be looking past you, at the ground, anywhere but at you.
"No bites?"
"Nope... Fine..." She begins to return to the fetal position.
A) Something's clearly wrong. Try to convince her you just want to help and make sure she's alright. B) She's hiding her arm, and you'd bet it's a bite. You need to know for sure, my any means necessary... C) She's fine, Lauren needs help. Maybe you can get by the zombies somehow and slip to the nurse's office.... D) You don't have time for her games. You've got other things that need to be done. Like find a weapon and make sure this place is really clear. Z) CYOA
If C: 1) Try to find a back way out. 2) See if you can get the others to distract the zombies through the gate shielding the counter while you slip out the door. 3) Try the ceiling. You aren't fully sure it can hold you weight, and there's no real way to find your way around up there, but it'll get you past the zombies just outside, at least.

You put a still slightly shaking hand on her shoulder, stopping her from curling back up. "Something's wrong. I can tell, just not what it is. Please? I want to help." She continues studying her knee, present in body but not so much in mind. Just when you're sure she is simply going to give you the cold shoulder, she responds in a unsteady whisper. "T-They're all dead..... My mother.... My brother... Even my... Father...... No matter how much of a bastard he is... was.... He was still my father..." She's crying freely now, tears sliding down her face. You feel a strange impulse to wipe them away, but you refrain, instead sitting there awkwardly with your hand on her shoulder. She continues to weeps soundlessly, for all appearances unaware of the rivulets of tears. You feel the need to say something, anything to help. "Look... We made it, right? That means they could too, alright?" She continues spacing, making you almost regret opening your mouth. Finally, after what you'd swear was half an hour, she breaks out of her trance. "I don't want to die. Before, I didn't think I cared.... But I don't want to die," She says as she turns, looking at you. If there's anything you've learned today, it's that you're not the best at saying the right thing. Knowing this, you gingerly snake your arm around her shoulders and pull her towards you. She leans in, resting her head in the crook of your neck, and sobs. You pat her on the back, trying to let her know you'll do your best to keep her safe. ========== Somewhere along the way, her crying dried up, going first to raggedy breathing, before finally stabilizing out into steady and deep. You, finding her asleep in your arms, realized just how tired this ordeal had made you, and had drifted off as well. Now you awake to a dark and eerily noiseless room. The utter quiet feels odd, then you realize: the zeds had stopped their senseless beating on the gates. You also find that Cynthia is no longer next to you, and no where in sight. You get up cautiously, looking around for someone; anyone. You find that you're alone in this room of the kitchen. "Hello?" You call out, the emptiness seeming to swallow it up as soon as it leaves your throat. No response. "Hello??" You say a little louder, feeling fear gnawing at your stomach. The only thing you want right now is some sort of response, but once you get it, you don't like it. A heavy thump comes from the next room over. Investigate unarmed. You'll be able to check it out immediately if someone's in danger, and a friendly is probably less likely to attack someone who's not waving a knife in their face. Hurriedly find a weapon of some sort, then go. No sense rushing in without something to defend yourself with. [C] Quietly search the room you're in for a weapon, then try to see what it is unnoticed. It'd take longer, but you'd rather see whatever in there before it sees you. [D] You don't like this. The feeling in the pit of your stomach tells you whatever is in there will be the end of you. Stack some things up and escape into the ceiling. [E] Stay hidden where you are. Maybe whatever made that noise won't find you. [Z]CYOA

Z: grab a frying pan, run and superman at the door, get ready to bash whatever is making the noise in the head, be it human or zombie. If it is not a zombie then drag him/her/it back into the kitchen. If it is a zombie bash its skull in. Then look around for people.
(ROGER: I'll count this as a "B" and include some of these details if it wins. Fair enough?)

Looking around briskly, you snatch a frying pan from above the stove. It still shines like new, and feels weighty in your hands. Perfect for bashing skulls in.
Somehow I'm not surprised this looks unused. You think bitterly, remembering all of the microwave slop you've be severed out of here.
Swinging it a couple times, you're satisfied with it. You then rush the door, ramming into it with your shoulder. It flies open, rebounding off the wall. It would have knocked you on your ass on the backswing, but you're already 10 feet in the room, head swiveling about, looking for anything out of the ordinary. However, you find nothing.
You're about to move on, when another thump comes from the door to the walk-in freezer.
A) Open it and jump back. There's no telling what's in there. B) Open it and stay there on guard. C) Open it and immediately attack what you're sure is a zombie inside. D) Call out. Anything living would surely answer. E) Your bad mojo has jumped up ten fold. Get the heck out of here. Z) CYOA
If E: 1) Through the main door. 2) Escape into the Ceiling. 3) Find another exit.
