Having seen what you'd stayed for, you slowly withdraw from the hole. The creature below you begins to move, the slide-tap rhythm resuming. Maneuvering carefully while controlling your panic, you turn and crawl into the blackness your friends had disappeared into earlier. Not even four strides later, the sound of tearing, wrenching metal shrieks up to you, closely followed by a repetitive sound of crunching metal, followed by even more ripping. Looking back, the pitiful amount of light that seeped through the empty tile fades quickly. The crunching and ripping fades long after. Soon, you're navigating solely by instinct and hunch. Well, that, and the piping you've been practically hugging the entire way. A good four or five minutes later, a faint glow of light comes from ahead. Resisting the urge to hurry, you maintain your quiet, plodding pace. The glow soon develops into a square of light. Cautiously, you make your way to the open tile and look down. Below lies a medium sized maintenance closet, as far as you can tell. The wall to the left is lined with shelves full of all sorts of tools and parts; wrenches, nails, sprockets, gears, among many other things you can't quickly identify. The wall directly across sports a line of blue coveralls on a rack as well as several lockers. You can't see the wall below and behind but, seeing as the last wall you can see is blank, it's safe to assume that the unseen one holds the door. Bates is leaning against the wall next to the locker. He holds a flashlight in on hand, and is steadily watching the seconds tick by on the other. He seems slightly nervous, to say the least. Cynthia sits slumped against the blank wall, head against her drawn up knees. A shunned flashlight sits beside her, sending it's beam steadily across the room. She had snagged one of the coats off the coveralls; judging from the torn pants half lying below an empty peg. You hop down into the room with a thud, surprising the two in the room. You stand up straight, a half cheeky grin on your face. "I told you I'd catch up." Bates, recovering from the shock first, strides toward you and has a mixed look of anger and curiosity. After a split second struggle, curiosity wins out. "Well? What the hell was it?" he asks quickly. You see Cynthia has gotten to her feet, and has a small look of relief, but otherwise is just as withdrawn as ever. You turn your attention back to Bates, and recant your sighting of the monstrosity. Once you end, the room sinks into a sullen silence. "So. Where are we?" You say, unable to bear the depressing silence anymore. "No clue. Ask Princess over here, " answers John as he gestures towards Cynthia. You look over to she her shrug. "Great. Well, I guess..." You begin. ...that we should get out of this pit. Let's go!" (Lead the group through the metal door behind you.) ...that there could be something useful in here. Spread out and search!" [C]...that we should just sit tight. The less movement and noise we make, the less attention we attract." [D]...we need to talk. Starting with how and why you disappeared, Cynthia." [E]...we shoul-" Something from earlier clicks into place. Those bruises on Cynthia weren't recent. Find something to distract Bates and confront her about it. [Z] CYOA

...that we should just sit tight. The less movement and noise we make, the less attention we attract." You say confidently, feeling that the moment you had spent deciding what to do had lasted a month rather than a mere couple seconds. (( >_> )) "Alright, fine, makes sense to me," agrees Bates. Cynthia simply nods her head, slightly. You watch as they settle themselves again, and then find a nice clear wall to lean against. You sink to the ground slowly, sliding against the wall as if not trusting your legs to lower you safely. You close your eyes and tilt your head back, trying to calm your electrified nerves. Thoughtlessly scratching your neck, your mind drifts, trying to do anything but dwell on the horror you had seen barely ten minutes ago. "Hey... Uh... I gotta go take a piss. I'll be right outside," you hear John say an indiscernible amount of time later, distracting you from whatever random train of thought you had been on. Opening your eyes, you see him walk over to the door. He opens it carefully, peeking out shyly for any perceptible threat. Apparently seeing nothing, he steps out, door shutting behind him. You also notice Cynthia glancing your way from across the room every few seconds with an indecipherable look on her face. It's likely not good for Bates to be out there alone. Step outside to cover him, simply keep your back turned to give him privacy. Cynthia clearly is wanting to talk to you; go ask what's up. [C]With Bates gone, this would be an opportune time to inquire Cynthia about all those bruises up her arm. If Bates gets into any trouble you're sure to hear him call out. [D] You're nerves are still jumpy. Return to your pseudo-meditations. [Z]CYOA

Course of action set, you get to you feet and begin to make your way across the room. Bates must've seen her wanting to talk and given us a chance to do so in private. I've gotta remember to thank him for that later....As you approach, she does her best to look like she doesn't notice you're coming. You, however, know otherwise. You stop a couple feet away, simply standing over her. She glances your way, and for but a moment, your eyes meet. You both look away quickly, embarrassed as it hold for a second too long. "Hey," she mumbles, clearly not having expected you to come to her. "Hey..." You mumble back as you sink into a kneeling position beside her. You wait a moment, trying to figure out just how to put it. She seems perfectly alright without conversation; something suddenly seemed very interesting with her shoelaces, judging by how she was studying them. "Listen," she suddenly speaks up, looking up at you, "I'm sorry about, you know..." She gestures vaguely back towards the kitchen, "... before. Thanks, though...." "Oh, that? Not a problem at all," you say, waving the apology off, "I was glad to help. But... I've got something I need to know," you finally just spit out, unable to solve the puzzle of trying to phrase it. "Hm?" She questions, tensing slightly. "Where..... Where did you get all those bruises?" "What bruises?" She says far too quickly, destroying any chance at the ignorance she was attempting to feign. "They're all over your arm," you say firmly. You get nothing in return but a carefully blank stare. Acting quickly, you gently take hold of her wrist and pull up the sleeve of her newly acquired coat, revealing a long chain of yellowed bruises. You don't look at them, you already know they're there. You simply hold her eyes, watching for a response. She looks from you to her arm, then back again, and begins breathing slightly heavier. A complex knot of emotions wash across her features. A knot that you are unable to untangle. Grief? Anger? Fear? Maybe even hope? You can't tell. She quickly pushes your hand off and shoves the sleeve back down. Her back turns to you, hiding her face from your view. A cold spike jabs your chest as you realize you may have just messed up. "Please... Don't. I don't think I can handle two breakdowns today...." She chokes out. You hesitate, unsure of just what to say. "Sorry, I didn't mean to..... Just please, don't cry." "I just want to know what happened. What are you afraid of?" [C]"Oh geez... Uh... Sorry..." *awkwardly extract yourself outside to where Bates is; she needs some time alone* [D]"I'll be right here to build you back up if you do." [E]"Please, just tell me what happened." [Z]CYOA

"Sorry, I didn't mean to..... Just please, don't cry," you beg weakly, wanting anything but to go through that again. You both sit in silence, unmoving. "I thought you had died...." She says softly, breaking an eternity of silence. You feel a weight lift from your chest that she hadn't started again. "I told you I'd come back." "No, no... Before that," she turns around, looking at you now. "What?" You say, dumbfounded. "You... Don't remember. Do you?" She says slowly after studying you for half a minute. "Uh.. I guess not..." She looks at you, slightly confused. She opens her mouth, but to say what, you'll never truly know. A cry comes from outside the door. "Oh, shit! Guys! HELP!" Leap up and run out the door, Bates needs help. Moving so quickly leaves Cynthia here in the room, but it may be Bate's only hope. Give Cynthia the knife from earlier, then rush to Bates' aid with her assistance. This'll take a little bit longer, but you can't just leave her here defenseless. [C]Give her the knife, and tell her to stay put. You don't want to lead her into what is likely a monster; she'd be much safer here. [D]Stay where you are and protect Cynthia, you couldn't live with yourself if she got hurt. [Z]CYOA
