Since I'm the only MMO playah here I naturally blew all my money on Bioware's first foray into the MMORPG market So if anyone is curious aboot it because it's a Bioware game Because it's a sequel to Knights of the Old Republic 1&2 Or because it was insanely hyped and is currently in the middle of a ginormous add campaign by EA I'll be here to answer any questions you have about the game, be it about the storyline/gameplay/fuck-you-gabe-I-despise-MMOs I'll answer it as best I can With Song and Dance

I play(ed) Guild Wars.
That's kind of an MMO.
Also, DCUO for about a week.
So yeah.

Guild Wars is totally an MMO. You're just not a person according to T-Bone. Who is the omnipotent god of CBox Bans.

I wasn't quite sure seeing how terribly instanced it all seems to be. It was/is like Phantasy Star, which I consider to be more of a multiplayer game than an MMO.
From what I hear, SWTOR isn't quite that different.
Also, speaking of Tbone, was that a good comeback he made? I really am not sure. It seemed quite simple and uninventive, but sometimes the most unoriginal of things are also the best.

The only instanced things are class quest areas, which are few and far between. Everyone travels to the same planets for their storyline at the same levels. Three Republic Bros and some Imperial Agent guy on a balloon ride over the Dune Sea My Imperial Agent on Tatooine On Rai's half comment, the PvP aspect is very much liek CoD except for neckbeards instead of fratboys/12 year olds. It's tactical and well paced while still letting player skill dominate numbers and equipment. An accidental screenshot of PvP

Class Story Quests are done solo or you can have friends help you. It's best that each person in a group plays a different class if they do level together, being that in Story quest zones only one person of each classes' story is allowed to progress. That being said, I have found the Jedi Knight and Jedi Consular stories to be incredibly lackluster. While the Sith Warrior and Imperial Agent Story Lines are top notch, with everyone else falling somewhere in between great and good. Doing story lines as a group is probably one of the best features of the game. The traditional Paragon - Pragmatic - Renegade dialogue options(a la Bioware) are chosen individually by each player. A roll from 1-100 determines which player speaks. Players that lose gain a bonus to their next conversation roll based on the difference between the winning roll and their own. Let's sai Rai the Sith Warrior chooses to kill Calis. Veta the Imperial Agent chooses to let him live. And Ace the Bounty Hunter chooses to keep him alive in exchange for cash money. Rai rolls a 85 Veta rolls a 1 Ace rolls a 100 That means the group lets the defector live in exchange for a cash bonus at the end of the quest. Since Rai and Veta lost, they get a bonus to their next roll. Rai gets a bonus of 15, while Veta gets a bonus of 99. Ace gets no bonus because he won. Next branch of the conversation, Rai chooses to kill Calis's BFF Gabe. Veta chooses to hug Gabe. And Ace chooses to extort Gabe for even more credits. Veta rolls a 1 again. But with his bonus it shows as a 100. Ace rolls a respectable 96 Rai rolls a 86. But with his bonus it shows as a 101. Rai proceeds to butcher Gabe with his giant glowing red dildo lightsaber while Veta watches on in horror and Ace simply shrugs. In the next conversation roll Veta would get a bonus of 1, Rai a bonus of 0, and Ace a bonus of 5. And being that it is an MMO and there is no reloading a save point. Gabe is dead forever. When it comes to alignment, the game is rather forgiving. For as long as you meant to do something good/evil while in a party but don't win the roll you still get the light side/dark side points you would have received. Questing as a party feels like you're a member of a group of assholes ragtag bunch of misfits, solving problems in ways you see fit too. But I do doubt Ace and Rai would pley it, since they're not the biggest MMO fans. TL;DR TOR is a dancing Sim

I normally despise MMOs as well, but I would play the FUCK out of The Old Republic if I had a computer that would run it. Kotor 1 & 2 remain in my top 10 favorite rpgs of all time so this is a no brainer.

It can be played as a straight RPG. And the amount of callbacks to KOTOR 1&2 are outstanding. To show how glorious the callbacks are. One of the bosses in the Foundry, a flashpoint(Story Driven Dungeon), is HK-47. When I first did the Foundry on my Imperial Agent. The Group I was with had never done the flashpoint before so we didn't know what to expect. So much to our surprise when HK-47 hopped out of a reactor and called us meatbags, all four of us nerdgasmed. But half the appeal for TOR for me was the fact that you could have the KOTOR experience with your buddehs. So if you were having trouble with dispatching Darth Angral in the Jedi Knight storyline you could call up your Trooper friend to come help you. If Ardun Kothe was giving you a run for your money in the Agent Storyline your Sith Warrior friend could swoop in an help you dispose of him. Plus going through the storylines with other people gives you a good sense of camaraderie. Sure the Trooper is on Corellia to defeat General Rakton, but he can work with the Jedi Knight who is serving as a Jedi Commander to the frontline soldiers in order to push the empire off the war-torn planet. Having group members that fall into each category of Paragon/Renegade/Pragmatic keeps the storylines fresh and interesting. You know what your Sith Inquisitor will do when he learns of a Sith's plot to torture rebelling slaves with a deadly neuro-toxin, but not what the Bounty Hunter in your party will do. As I posted earlier Tbone. I would suggest Sith Warrior, Imperial Agent, Trooper, or Smuggler as the best storylines. The Jedi Knight has you follow in the footsteps of Revan and the Exile near the end but has an extremely terrible first act. Jedi Consular is all about Bastila Shan, but I haven't really completed it. Bounty Hunter is pretty good and the male Bounty Hunter is voiced by Solid Snake. Sith Inquisitor plays out like the opposite of the Sith Warriors, learning the mysteries of the Dark Side and shit rather than serving as the Vader to Darth Baras' Sidious.

I didn't ruin the last boss in the Foundry for you. Which is a bit more uh... spoilerific. They don't even call him by name in the patch notes. He's just, "The Last Boss in The Foundry"
idk when it's going free to play. They might just stick to the old trusty subscription motif. Being that they're already at 2 million active accounts.

They probably might set it up for micro-transactions once they break even on it. Subscriptions are a more steady way to make money.
If they did switch to F2P since it's a largely story based game. They'd probably let you play the Prologue and maybe Act 1 for free, but then make you pay for act 2 and 3. Cash Shop would sell purchasable tokens that do shit for free instead of costing credits. Fancy Color Crystals. Special Customizable equipment.
They might very well make it F2P, I don't know when though.

Doesn't World of Warcraft have subscriptions AND microtransactions? also I hope they don't go free to play, if I were an MMO player I'd prefer to pay a flat fee each month and play with people who actually give a fuck than play with a bunch of F2P trolls who just make a bunch of accounts because being banned on a F2P game is NOTHING of course I wouldn't play it either way, so lol

WoW does. But it's big jump from subscriptions to relying solely on Micro-transactions.
I do not like F2P games that much. Being that I play WoW and ToR, that's somewhat obvious.
I do enjoy giving people false hope.

I don't like P2P games because of two reasons.
1. I get bored easily.
2. I don't like paying a monthly fee for a game that I've already paid for. If TOR just gave me the client, I would be much more inclined to check it out.
That's why I like Guild Wars. Bought it and now I can play it whenever the fuck I want without feeling the guilt of not getting my worth out of a subscription.
P.S. Are you experimenting with a new format style in order to stand out?

How do I go about purchasing this thing and how does the whole subscription work?

Roughly $15 for a month. You can buy a 2 month card from wherever they sell prepaid cards for liek $30 dollars if you don't have a credit card
