Yeah, it's slightly academic...but hey, I read a lot of posts, and they all have their different styles, and some styles are predominant and have influenced other posters.
So after some thought, I compiled several of the main styles.
1. Actionism:
This is the predominant style used by many of the first posters. Some could say that in its purest form it involves very short posts focusing entirely on what the characters are doing.
Actionism, as its name suggests, is based on action. There is little to no character development, and a lot of balls out action. Dialogue is often bare bones and functional, with simple discussions pertaining to the situation at hand, or slightly comedic exchanges between characters, often during a fight. Dialogue can also be completely excluded and replaced by one-liners.
Actionism influenced the posting style of many of the older members, and some still use it (Rai for instance).
Main proponents of Actionism, past and present:
-Rai AKA the Merchant.
-Shark.
-Kong.
-Ace (defunct).
-Veta (defunct).
-Basil (defunct).
It has mostly been replaced by newer schools of writing, but its influence can still be felt.
2. Vetaism:
Vetaism derives from Actionism as it makes use of the balls out action part, but it differs from Actionism in the fact that it takes character development more seriously and takes the action element a lot further.
In Vetaism, characters are often tailored to be "cool", and some are based on clichés (i.e Veta's main character uses Mexican stereotypes). Vetaistic characters aren't very realistic. Realism as a whole is often thrown out of the window in favour of drama and action.
Drama is a key element to Vetaism, the more drama there is in one post, the better it is.
Main proponents of Vetaism, past and present:
-Veta.
Rhodism:
Rhodism is a lot more down to earth than Vetaism. There is more focus on the character's psychological aspect and internal debates and dialogue is often well constructed and well fleshed-out.
Action sequences are more realistic and gritty than in Vetaism. Characters often suffer from psychological damage after a fight or traumatic situation, an element which is not present in Actionism or Vetaism. In the "dying days" of Rhodism, psychological trauma was taken to such an extent as to have the characters break down entirely after fights.
Main proponents of Rhodism, past and present:
-Michael Rhodes.
-COGS (defunct).
-Basil (defunct).
Ruinoffism:
Ruinoffism is also derived from Actionism, only instead of focusing on the action element, it uses the comedic element and takes it to a whole new level.
Characters are often involved in humouristic dialogue, and random, slightly farcesque mannerisms are often used ("Matty" for instance).
Ruinoffism also uses crazy science as a major plot element, which brings us to Bastardism.
Main proponents of Ruinoffism, past and present:
-Matt Ruinoff.
Bastardism:
As used by Tbone the Lazy Bastard, it is based mostly on the use of crazy science and monsters galore. Characters are often very collected, and little room is given to emotion.
Bastardism flourished in the Old Zday, where use of monsters and crazy science was common place.
Unlike Ruinoffism, it does not make use of comedy.
Main proponents of Bastardism, past and present:
-Tbone.
Slayerism:
As used by COGS, Slayerism's main characteristic is the use of characters from well-known video game or film franchises such as Resident Evil, GTA or Fight Club.
Another major part of Slayerism, which was especially present in the Alt, was excessive personal drama. This aspect was obviously brought on by Rhodist influences, and gave rise to the famous "love triangle".
Main proponents of Slayerism, past and present:
-COGS AKA Slayer.
More material will be added. Your contribution is welcome, but keep in mind that this is a "serious" thing, and is not aimed at insulting or making fun of anyone.
Your contributions must be serious, and not random lol material
