For the past couple of years, I've kept an up-to-date list of my 100 favorite movies. I have posted the list once before on the movie board of GameFAQs.com, but that board has slowed down considerably since then. This year, the list will be posted here, in incriments of 5 movies per post. Everyone feel free to post comments and opinions.
#100-Diary of the Dead-2007- www.imdb.com/title/tt0848557/
Starting the list is George Romero's most recent addition to his "Living Dead" series, and the most underrated one in my opinion. Filmed in a documentary style, much like The Blair Witch Project and more recently Cloverfield, this movie gives the viewer a different take on the zombie apocalypse portrayed in Romero's Night of the Living Dead. All in all, I really enjoyed it, and found it to be MUCH better than 2005's Land of the Dead.
#99-Total Recall-1990- www.imdb.com/title/tt0100802/
A sci-fi action thriller starring Arnold Schwarzenegger (A sentence that can be used to describe many movies). This one, however, stands out to me. The concept and story are very creative, unlike most movies that star Schwarzenegger, and the story never gets boring for me. Then there is the ominous ending that leaves you wondering whether or not it's all a dream. Definately Schwarzenegger's best non-Terminator film.
#98-Star Wars: Return of the Jedi-1983- www.imdb.com/title/tt0086190/
I've loved the three original Star Wars movies since I was very young, when my cousin showed them to me. No matter how disappointing George Lucas's newer films in the saga are, the original trilogy will always remain classics. This film, while my least favorite of the three, is still a timeless classic, with things like Jabba the Hutt, the Sarlacc, Leia in her slave outfit (which was once included on the cover of Playboy, if I remember correctly), and the climactic final duel of Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader. The film does have its flaws, though. Flaws like Luke's quick mastery of his Jedi powers, the Empire's best being defeated by a bunch of fucking teddy bears, and the very idea that Palpatine's death could every mean the end of the Empire. All flaws aside, it is still an amazing movie.
#97-Falling Down-1993- www.imdb.com/title/tt0106856/
Yep, it's the movie that V recomended to everyone here. And, yes, it made it onto this list. This was surprisingly good for a Joel Schumacher film (who is responsible for crap like Batman & Robin and The Number 23). I loved Michael Douglas's portrayal of a man on the edge, and Robert DuVall was perfect for the lead role. I, much like V, recomend this to anybody who enjoys a good crime spree film. And here's a bit of trivia: The lead female actress of this movie, Rachel Ticotin, was also in Total Recall.
#96-Armageddon-1998- www.imdb.com/title/tt0120591/
I know, I know, why would I include a movie by one of Hollywood's worst filmmakers, Michael Bay, on this list. Well, I actually liked this one. Maybe it's the fact that I'm a big fan of Bruce Willis, or maybe it's because I like movies where the entire planet is at risk. Either way, I think this is a good movie, despite being the creation of the same man that gave us The Island and Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen (dear God).
