Also, I need a bit of extra information. Seeing as John is traveling with five women, I believe it's about time a bit of romance started blooming. So I'd like everybody to choose who'd you like most to see become a possible romantic interest, this will give me something to think about at work and how to incorporate it into the story.
Now the more negative side of things, with all these women it may be about time to thin the herd. Alongside the possible romantic interest, I'd also like you to post what character you'd like to see perish. If a particular character receives the most votes it does not necessarily mean they will die, just simply placed in peril in the near future.
So in short, who would you like to see become a romantic interest and who would you like to see perish? Here's a list for the extremely lazy:
Cindy Lennox: Waitress and good natured blonde Nicole Lynx: Steadfast woman with a desire to prove herself Cynthia Velasquez: A kind, quiet Latina who cares deeply for her cousin Isabela Keyes: Confident medical technician who can hold her own. Lara Croft: Charismatic Tomb Raider decked out in weapons and tight clothing.

A, 1.
Half a mile isn't all that far (well, minus the possible hordes of zombies and giant monstrosities, etc.). Might be faster to get there just walking/running when needed. Everyone had their rest and should be ready to go, and weapons would make any further action later much easier (hopefully).
As for romance, why not Cynthia. Who knows, could lead to some dispute or a triangle with all sorts of drama should another become involved...like perhaps her cousin?
Concerning death, how about Lara. She is new, she is hot, she is a beast. So why consider her death? Because I have a complex, dammit, and there isn't enough room for two leads. =P But, not really concrete on this one. Anyone can work fine, so long as it makes for a good story.
I guess I'm mainly concerned with her uber-ability. Though this could be remedied by getting the group in really nasty spots or having them temporarily separated, etc.
Another awful choice would be to have both the cousins up for trouble. Especially if the lead falls for one or the other, and also knowing the surviving family member would be broken.
A variation of that would be to have someone important in danger at the same time as one of the cousins, with similar troubles; save the important one, or save the cousin, knowing you will lose something/someone valuable. Makes for tough choices.

A, 1 Just have the remain vigilant on the way.
Hmm, cast Lara as the romantic interest. It's every nerd's fantasy and John certainly deserves such a fantastic specimen.
I feel that Cindy should be the one to perish. She's been nothing but a burden and the loss of the group conscious should prove interesting.
Another reason for Cindy's death would be to stay in line with your stories, Eric. Her death has been a constant in them from what you've told me for near on two years now, no need to break the cycle now.

I chose Cindy for the love interest because, like you said, she is caring and it be fun to see her combat skill (hopefully) grow.
I chose Cynthia to perish since she has little combat skills and only will distract isabela.

Something I completely forgot to add yesterday, please post two possible romantic interests. I thought it over and it'd add some more drama to the story, something that's always entertaining.

Btw sorry with the multiple posts, I just got around to making an account.
Hopefully last edit... Cindy to be in peril. (nothing like saving someones life to jumpstart a romance)

With new permission, I suggest pursuing Isabela/Cynthia as a possible romantic interest. I only group the cousins together for now since they are nigh inseparable and it may be a while before John is able to get one of them alone together with him.
But if this won't fly, Cynthia as the second romantic interest. I've grown fond of her character and she would give John a reason to keep fighting, give him something worth protecting.

Something else, if you really want you can request a second character death to thin the ranks even more. It may not be preferable, but it would make for tension in the story and major plot device further down the road.....

Really now? If that's the case, go ahead and place Nicole in peril at least alongside Cindy while the waitress is being killed if you would kindly.......

If nobody has anymore votes to cast on the Romantic interest, then the results are in. Lara and Cynthia have won out in becoming the possible romantic interests. Now onto more somber news. Multiple character received the same amount of votes so it may come down to a tough choice on John's part in the near future, be on the lookout for ways to prevent this though......
"I think traveling to your loft is the best plan. We could definitely use the firepower and it can't be anymore dangerous than what we've just encountered here alone." John firmly states his decision, garnering a pleased smile from Lara. "Your loft it is then." The general consensus is accepted without any problems though John wonders how exactly they'll make it the half mile with no weapons whatsoever.
"It's extremely important that we not draw any extra attention to ourselves. Do not wander away from the group either, I've seen more than one person succumb to death due to pure stupidity." Lara's words are harsh but they serve to get the point across. "Okay." John states matter-of-factly, stepping forward to exit the television station first. Lara follows next, accompanied by Nicole, then Isabela, Cynthia, and Cindy is finally the last one to march onto the street.
Almost as soon as they step foot out of the building, a woman's bloodcurdling scream tears through the still air, causing the hair's on John's neck to stand on end. Lara diverts her gaze ahead, focusing on their objective to keep herself steady. Cindy whimpers for fear of the woman's life, but John knows there is no point in mourning her. They still have their own lives to worry about.
Lara maintains a strict rule of no talking, the slightest sound could alert any surrounding predators and that would secure their demise. Nicole clings closer to John than she intends though without realizing it. Cindy does the same though she goes so far as to even grab his hand for support upon hearing an unearthly roar from afar. Cynthia and Isabela support each other with Lara keeping a small distance in front, staying on point should they run into an ambush or anything of that nature.
They come to being discovered by fantastic creatures several times, but they are able to evade them quickly thanks to Lara's quick reflexes and John's general ingenuity. John doesn't say anything to Cindy as she practically crushes his hand with her anxiety driven grip, nor anything to Nicole about her constant hovering which nearly trips him on more than one occasion.
"We're here." Lara says triumphantly at the base of the building entrance. "Whoa, this must cost a pretty penny." John whistles as he looks the building over. Sleek modern architecture is prominent in its design, but that is all the time he has to admire it as Lara rings for her butler. "Jeeves, it's Lara. Buzz us in." She waits for reply that never comes.
"Damn...." She kicks at the ground while contemplating another method of entry. "We can't break brute force. I specifically chose this building for that reason." She pats on heavy steel door at the entrance, chuckling ironically at the door's purpose. "There's a fire escape on the side or I can try climbing the side of the building, either way I'm going to have to go up alone." She tells the group, ears open for any suggestions.
Vitality: 50% Fatigue: 75% Inventory: Car keys, Cell phone,
Entourage: Nicole Lynx: 40% Cindy Lennox: 30% Cynthia Velasquez: 37% Isabela Keyes: 60% Lara Croft: 75%, Desert Eagle (9/18), Desert Eagle (9/18)
Approval: Isabela: 45% Cindy: 46% Cynthia: 43% Nicole: 40% Lara: 34%
A) Boost Lara up the fire escape in the alley next to the building, she can drop the ladder for the group or head inside to open the front door
B) Watch her traverse the opposite side of the building, it's a bit more risky but allows Lara a chance to climb for the first time in a while
Z) CYOA
If you vote A, what should Lara do once up the escape: 1) Try to drop the ladder so everyone else can climb up though she says it is a bit difficult to move
2) Head inside and open the front door, she'll have to move out of sight but it may be the quickest way to get inside.
While Lara's occupied with that, John will have a chance to engage someone in a quick conversation: C) Cindy, she is still clutching John's hand with a vise grip and could use a nice, calming talk
D) Nicole, she's quivering with fear and may be unfocused if John doesn't talk her out of it
E) Isabela, she is waiting intently on Lara and could use a good conversation
F) Cynthia, it's been a while since John spoke with her one on one and she could use some reassurance from someone beside her cousin.

A, 2, F.
I figure Lara is pretty good at her sneaking around, so she should hopefully be alright. With a couple people clinging on and nearly tripping us up, I imagine they might cause more trouble than not climbing up a ladder and bumbling about in a place we know nothing about.
Since Lara and Cynthia won the romance, might as well talk to the one who is here. Granted, two of the other girls are kind of scared and all over us, but that is somewhat reasonable with all that has happened.

A, 2, and F.
As for what Bastion mentioned earlier, I suggest Isabela and Cynthia be the romantic interests if that is allowed. It offers plenty of opportunities for tension and drama later on down the road.
Also, I say can Cindy. It's about time for her to go... And I'll toss Lara's name into the mix for this as well, due to reasons Eric likely already knows about. >_>

"Head up the fire escape then, I can give you a boost if you need it. It's safer than you scaling a vertical wall with no equipment." John suggests, he'd rather Lara not risk her health just for a slight jolt of adrenaline. "Okay, I'll head inside and open the door. The ladder on the escape sticks, something I've been unable to get repaired. This city has turned out to be nothing but trouble since the moment I stepped off the plane." Lara shakes her head in frustration as she steps off the stoop and enters the wide alley, John and the others following shortly.
"Will you need any help, one of us to come with you?" Isabela offers her assistance, believing that venturing on alone to be too risky. "I'll be fine, I can get the door unlocked more quickly by myself anyway. Just be weary of anything out on the street, I don't want to unlock the door to find that any of you have been killed." She states somberly in an upbeat tone, displaying her preference for dark humor. "Ha ha, you're hilarious. Now get up there and get inside, I don't want to stand out here any longer than I have to." John counters, making light of the situation to raise morale.
"Okay, just give me a lift so we can get this done." Lara steps back while John kneels and cups his hands together, bracing himself for the toss. She sprints forward, plants her foot firmly in his hands, and John throws her straight up. Lara flies upward and grabs the third bar from the bottom, hoisting herself to the platform with minimal effort. "I'll be back as fast as I can!" She calls back before ascending the stairs.
With even more spare time on his hands, John takes this time to see how Cynthia is doing, she's been the most quiet of everyone so far. Isabela is searching the alley for anything that could be of use, allowing John to speak with her one on one. "Cynthia, we haven't talked in a while. How are you holding up?" John initiates the conversation nonchalantly, leaning against Lara's loft building with his arms crossed.
"Oh, hi John. I'm...together. Just more tired than anything. My sides are throbbing, but it's nothing too severe. I'm just thankful to be alive, really." Cynthia's comment mirrors Nicole's own previously, but John doesn't quite receive the same sense of foreboding he got from Nicole. That's weird...
"Aren't we all? Looks like we've finally found a pretty comfortable place to bunker down though. I bet Lara's got plenty of accomodations in there." John and Cynthia speculate shortly on what she may have in her loft, sharing a good laugh about what treasures she has stored within as well.
"What's that?" Nicole nearly leaps out of her skin at a sound only she heard. "What is it?" Isabela attempts to calm her before she has an anxiety attack when she hears the noise as well. "I don't know how to describe it!" She babbles, requiring Isabela to slap her across the cheek. Nicole stares at her with misty eyes as she states, "Hold it together, Nicole. Lara's inside and will let us in shortly." She remains ambiguous on the subject of Lara not reaching them in time......
Inside, Lara quickly seeks out the stair well in the dining room of the third floor, the windows on the lower floors were both locked for some reason. "Jeeves!" She calls out navigating toward the entrance, worried about her butler alongside the others.
Her concern is quelled after stumbling upon the zombified corpse of Jeeves, bringing a small tear to her eye for the man who has been there for her since childhood. "Jeeves..." Her hand shakes on the holster of her gun, tangling with a typhoon of emotions raging within her mind. How Jeeves? How?!
Her curiousity is also answered by the appearance of several more zombies in freshly washed clothes. He must have sheltered them from the outbreak without knowing they were infected. Done in by his kindness, damn this world!
Overcome by rage, Lara brandishes her firearms and guns down every undead foe in her line of sight, Jeeves included. The hammers on the Eagles click several times before she realizes the magazines are empty, dropping them to the ground as the tide of emotions finally flow forth.
She allows herself to cry only for a few seconds, donning a stoic expression to steel herself if only for a moment. Lara holsters her handguns again as the sounds of shouting from outside flow in. Something must be attacking!
Lara hesitates momentarily, the arsenal is on the third floor and she may need some extra firepower before letting them inside.
John and the others are being attacked by on two fronts by a team of creatures. One pack is of two flying monsters that resemble enlarged bats with larger teeth to match. Their talons are sharp enough to slice flesh but they seem more intent on abducting their prey, swooping in and out for the survivors instead of assaulting them with their claws.
The other threat is a trio of arachnids the size of small cars, their bulgy eyes studying every move made by the group carefully. Their fangs drip deadly venom as they exert themselves and their hairy legs flex dangerously all the while. The only redeeming feature on the survivor's part is that they don't seem to be very strong, hence the need for their toxin.
Isabela fights back one of the spiders with a trash lid, utilizing it as a shield to defend herself. Unfortunately, the spider knocks it away with lukcy strike and blasts her with a bolo-like web projectile, restraining her arms and legs. Nicole stumbles to evade the lunge of one of the Harpies, narrowly saving her life as a small clip of her hair is snagged on its talon. It swiftly turns in midair and strikes again, this time successfully gripping an arm in a powerful clinch.
Cindy attempts flee from an arachnid climbing the wall above her but her ankle is snared by a glob of webbing shot by the spider. She whimpers as it closes in for the kill. The second of the Harpies takes a different approach, electing to try and tackle Cynthia before scooping her up in its grip. Its first attempt misses and it strikes the wall, knocking it for a loop but it recovers quickly. The Latina cowers in the corne as it encroaches, baring its fangs menacingly.
John has managed to remain undetected somehow despite pulling some of the women from danger several times, but he must act now or else most of them will perish. He was able to grab a discarded baseball bat in all the chaos, now is his chance to use it.
Vitality: 50% Fatigue: 75% Inventory: Car keys, Cell phone, Baseball bat
Entourage: Nicole Lynx: 38%, Arm trapped in Harpy's claw Cindy Lennox: 30%, Ankle ensnared by spider's ball of web Cynthia Velasquez: 37%, Cornered by angry Harpy Isabela Keyes: 60%, Arms and legs restrained by webbing Lara Croft: 75%, Desert Eagle (0/18), Desert Eagle (0/18)
Approval: Isabela: 45% Cindy: 46% Cynthia: 47% Nicole: 40% Lara: 37%
First, what should Lara do: A) Climb back up to the third floor and grab some weapons from the armory, there are several attackers from the sound of it
B) Proceed to the entrance, it is imperative that she let them in now before it is too late
And once she is outside, who should she attempt to assist (Choose 1 if voted A, two if voted B): 1) Isabela, she is completely defenseless and at the spider's mercy
2) Cindy, the spider is extremely close and will be upon her in seconds
3) Nicole, the Harpy will be able to snatch her away within moments
4) Cynthia, she could be ripped apart by the angry beast
And what about John (Choose 2 possible:) C) Attempt to save Isabela, John will have to distract the spider while she moves herself aside
D) Free Cindy's ankle, the spider could sink its fangs into her if John doesn't hurry
E) Fight off the Harpy holding Nicole, John has to do something or else she'll be abducted
F) Distract the Harpy cornering Cynthia, there's no telling what it will do to her if he doesn't help
And for this choice, order actually does matter so be careful about that. Don't randomly post numbers or else it may not turn out as you intended. And for Lara, going with B means it may be possible to save two, though there is a game of chance involved. A is an almost guaranteed success, but she will be too late to assist another character.

Well now, this quite a jam. Assuming Lara can reach the armory and return in time, Cynthia and/or Isabela would be in most need of her services. But damn my conscious, I'm having second thoughts about Cindy's end. Nicole is in the most immediate danger, what with already being in the creature's clutches. I believe I've reached my verdict.

Lara springs forward from her hesitant state, having decided on assisting the others immediately. I'll lose too much time by heading to the armory. She bounds the steps to the first floor two at a time, whipping around the corner of the entrance hall to the front door. Lara pulls the door open and heads outside, observing the carnage that has unfolded.
She sees that nearly everybody is in danger so she assists the person nearest her, who happens to be Nicole. Her handguns already reloaded, Lara aims at the wing of the Harpy and fires, ripping several holes in the thin membrane. With its ability to stay afloat severely hampered, the Harpy is intelligent to know that it has been defeated. It flees into the distance after releasing Nicole, crying out in pain all the while. "The door's open so head inside and wait." She pushes the woman back without another word, the others still requiring help.
Isabela cringes as the spider stands over her, its disgusting appearance the last image she believes she will ever see. It rears back and prepares to strike as Lara unloads the rest remaining bullets in her gun's magazines, rendering its thorax nothing more than a pile of shredded flesh and lime-green blood. She sets to freeing Isabela and tells her, "Nicole's already heading inside so simply follow her. We'll save Cynthia, I promise." Reassured of her cousin's safety, Isabela does as advised.
John swings his bat wildly as he charges at the Harpy trapping Cynthia, latching onto its back on instinct. Taken by surprise, the creature attempts to buck its insane passenger off but is surprisingly unsuccessful. He hits home and breaks the right wing of the Harpy, a shrill cry of pain his reward. He releases the creature, which then flees just like its brethren.
In a fortunate turn of events, the Harpy bowls over the spider before it can reach Cindy, allowing John to reach and free her ankle before it can recover.
"This way! My loft's open!" Lara corrals them to the front door and slams it shut, fastening the heavy metal bar behind to secure it once and for all. "Phew." Is all John can say as he leans against the wall to catch his breath, nodding to Lara in acknowledgement of her skill. She returns the gesture by stating, "That was brave of you to abandon rationale and grab onto that thing. I didn't think you had it in you." She flashes him a confident smile, raising John's spirits in the process.
Now in a den of safety, John ponders what to do next.

Entourage: Nicole Lynx: 38%, Cindy Lennox: 30%, Cynthia Velasquez: 37%, Isabela Keyes: 60%, Lara Croft: 75%, Desert Eagle (0/9), Desert Eagle (0/9)
Approval: Isabela: 49% Boost for saving her cousin Cindy: 46% Cynthia: 51% Nicole: 40% Lara: 47% Large boost for displaying bravery
A) Seek out Lara and ask her for a tour of the loft, John can admire the building while having a chance to chat with the Tomb Raider, they can end the tour at the armory so he can peruse her selection of weapons as well
B) Explore Lara's loft with one of the other women, John can speak with them while they have the time
C) Search the loft by himself, John could use the alone time to find someplace to rest as well
D) Call for everyone to gather on the first floor, they should discuss what they're going to do now that they've finally reached a safe haven
Z) CYOA
For B, who should John explore with: 1) Cynthia, John can use this as a chance to speak with her about whatever is on her mind
2) Isabela, she may wish to thank him for what he did for Cynthia 3) Nicole, she still seems reserved about her opinion of John and this could be a chance to relieve some of the tension that may still be lingering
4) Cindy, the waitress could probably use some help in tending to her wounds for the moment and use a bit of company in the process

Though it doesn't matter at this point, I'm going with B4. Wound fixing is always good, and after the last encounter (and unsure of how clear this place is), I don't know about leaving all the girls alone again without help (either from John or Lara).

Before Lara can take her leave, John taps her on the shoulder and asks, "While we're here, do you mind giving me a tour of your humble abode? It'll be a lot easier than me searching the entire place by myself anyway." Lara considers his request with a mischievous smile but quickly changes her countenance. "Why not? There's nothing else to be done at the moment and I could use the company." She motions for John to follow as they begin the tour of Croft Loft.
"As you can tell, this is the entrance hall. I've neglected decorating it because I didn't plan to remain in the city long after my appearance at the television station and museum. One of the artifacts I recently uncovered at a dig in Peru was to be featured here one night from now, but it looks like that plan has been derailed." She points out the notable pieces of furniture in the next room, a decently sized recreational area with a pool table and paintings adorning the walls.
"I know, right? I don't think we're going to be doing much of anything we've planned for the next few days, huh?" They share a slight chuckle before continuing on. "The kitchen is behind the stairs and to the left, but there's nothing to see back there. It was mainly Jeeves who...who..." Lara sniffles and wipes away a small tear, doing so before John is able to notice. Or so she thinks. Something must have happened to Jeeves while she was trying to get the door open. It'd be best not to pry for now, she'll talk about it when she's ready.
Lara concludes the tour of the first floor in the large, open room to the right of the entrance hall, which is decorated with artistic paintings and several expensive looking chairs along with a marble statue replica of Michelangelo's David. "You must really love your Renaissance era art. This thing looks like it cost a fortune." John marvels at the exquisite detail of the replica, much care went into this piece almost as if it were diligently made by hand exclusively for Lara.
"Yes, I do have an affinity for the age of enlightenment. In fact I had this piece commissioned personally by an artist famous for his replicas of the era. I'm surprised you recognized the piece, most people off the street would gaze at the statue and wonder what in the world its purpose is." She applauds John's recognition of David, raising his standing with her somewhat.
"Well, I studied basic art during a short stint in college. Too bad I couldn't afford to keep attending, I had to drop out after my first semester." John replies, merely shrugging as the bitter memory rears its ugly head. "That's a shame, I believe higher education could benefit us all. But things don't always happen as we plan." Lara states, nodding as a zombie claws at the large bay window in the room.
They proceed to the second floor but are interrupted by a shout from the third floor. "What is it?" Lara inquires as she and John immediately make their way up the stairs. Nicole and Isabela are in a private study area populated with an old roller desk and a 1920s style pull lamp.
"Look outside." Nicole says, observing the street below alongside the Latina. "The zombies are flocking to this area in massive numbers. It will be a matter of hours before they completely occupy the street and outlying area." Isabela speculates to them gravely, anxious about being trapped should they still be here when that time comes. "We don't know that for sure, they could be traveling somewhere or just wandering aimlessly and have found their way here by complete coincidence." Lara counters, remaining positive even in this dark time.
"Whatever they're doing, I think we should be preparing for the inevitable. This place isn't impregnable and it's only a matter of time before either the zombies find a way in or more creatures attack." Isabela interjects her own view of realism into the debate, seeking to ready the group for future threats. "Of course my loft isn't impenetrable, but it's the most secure building in this vicinity of the city, I can promise you that. Now let's end this foolish argu-" Lara is cut off by Cynthia's shriek from the second floor, prompting John to exit the room and quickly rush to investigate the problem.
He finds her staring at the ghastly visage of a creature dangling outside, a wicked tongue hanging from its maw of short, jagged teeth. "Cynthia, don't make any sudden movements." John warns unnecessarily, the woman frozen in fear anyway.
