*Yeah, crappy title. Comments on how to improve are welcome. Fuck y'all*
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Derek looked out the window. He has been running for a week. It's been a week since his world collapsed. One goddamn week since that greasy pig died. Not that Derek felt bad about it. That greasy motherfucker had it coming after what he did to Olivia. He closed his eyes. He could hear Olivia's giggles...and that fucker's cries.
The bus stopped on a small town on the mountains. It was late, and Derek was sleepy. But he couldn't sleep without having nightmares. At least not without drinking.
Walking down the main road, he found the local pub. Inside, 6 older men sat in front of the TV. The news showed some nut on the city, holding his wife and child hostage. Derek sat on the counter. The waitress came closer.
" Hya. What you'll have? " She asked.
Derek looked around and ordered a beer. He was 17 and the waitress seemed just around his age. 17, yet he looked older.
" You're not from around town, are you? "
" Yeah, i'm not. How did you know? "
He asked. But he didn't want to hear why.
Oh yes, we live in a small town. Everybody knows each other 'round here
" This is a small town, everybody knows each other. "
He let out loud yawn.
" Oh, sleepy? Maybe you should go take a nap. Where you'll be stayin'? "
" I don't know. What's the nearest hotel? "
The waitress called one of the men who where watching TV. The man was old, wearing an dusty denim coat.
" Say, Rose, my dear, whatchu need? "
Rose giggled and looked at Derek.
" Well, Mel, you see our friend here needs a place to stay. How much is a room on the Starlight? "
Mel scratched his head (not that there was any hair on it).
" Uh, he looks like a good boy. Say, kid, why are you in town? "
Derek looked at Rose.
" I'm...Well...Honestly, i'd rather not talk about it. "
Mel put his hand on Derek's shoulder. His hand was shaky and raspy.
" Yeah, i know what i'll do. You'll be takin' a nappy on the 304. "
Rose looked at Mel, with her mouth wide open.
" 304? You mean THE 304? "
Mel looked at the redhead.
" Yes, the 304. Did you hit your head? There's only one 304 on the Starlight. "
" Wait, wait. Why such a fuss about a room? "
" Well, you see... " Rose blushed " The 304 is the most requested room on the Starlight. They Say it can make wishes come true. "
Mel laughed.
" I think you may find some use to it, young man. And i'll charge the same i would for any other room. "
Derek sighed.
Out of everybody i could find, rapists, murderers, drunks, i end up meeting a bunch of idiots who believe a room can make wishes come true. Amazing.
" So... " Mel asked " You coming or what? "
Derek payed the beer and got up, ready to leave with Mel.
" So, what's your name? " Rose asked.
" Derek. Derek Navarro. "
He lied. His name wasn't Derek Navarro. It was Derek Collins, but it was best they didn't know it. Olivia's surname would have to do for now.
The Starlight was just around the corner. A 3 story building painted blue. On the inside, the Starlight was simple. It had a checkered floor, white walls with few paintings. The counter was dusty. Mel handed the keys to Derek.
" The daily for the 304 is 50 bucks. But for ya it's 15. Price of a standard room. "
" Wait, you're losing cash here. Why? "
" Ah, sometimes, good people just need something good happening to them. "
" Thanks. "
Derek went up the stairs to the 3rd floor. Room 304 was the second on the left. Inside, it looked like any 3 star hotel around the world. A TV, one bed, the bathroom had a shower and a toilet. It even had a small fridge.
