Emma found herself sitting on a log and listening to the sounds of birds chirping and the various other calls of the wild. It was a relaxing feeling, something Emma had enjoyed the past week and a half. It had become a part of her morning ritual. She did it every morning, sitting on an old toppled over tree and enjoying the sights and sounds of the forest for about fifteen to thirty minutes. There was an undeniable beauty about it. Something she always loved, even when she was a kid. A trait she may or may not have gotten from her mother, a self professed "hippie" who travelled the country and did what Emma was doing, but every day. Granted there was always the added herbal assistance, but that's off-topic.
It was about six or seven in the morning, a lot earlier than everyone was used to waking up in the summer time. But having a couple of hours before everyone woke up really was beneficial. Emma used the time to grab some firewood. Granted, it was completely unneeded considering the amount they had, but Emma liked making the entire trip to be as authentic as possible. Even if she had only been able to light the campfire 4 days out of the 11 they had been there with her stick method. Most of the time they used a lighter or match, something Emma was not too happy about. Though, the fire always did it's job. It was mostly used to heat the fish the group had caught or light the camp itself.
The outfit Emma was wearing wasn't entirely suitable for the outdoor hike they were on, but it was something she often found herself wearing. Her signature yellow hoodie and black beanie, the beanie with Emma's usual odd symbols and markings she decided to sew in. Like roses, lightning bolts, and cherries. She had also clothed herself in a plain white T-shirt, a pair of blue jeans, and some black and white sneakers. A simple outfit, but it got the job done. Emma had been wearing mostly simple outfits during the trip, nothing too outrageous. Emma had an outfit with quite a bit more skin planned for the next day, but today was another day of camping. Their last real one, in any case. The next was packing and driving, then the anniversary. The whole reason behind the trip was her one year anniversary with her girlfriend, Ana. Emma wanted a week and a half out camping, then a few days in an impressive 5-star hotel, then finally a party with family and friends. Ana only knew about the camping trip and hotel, though, Emma had done a good job of keeping the party a secret. Something Emma was particularly excited about.
Emma fumbled around her pocket with her recently tattooed hand, moving around various pieces of jewelry she kept safely tucked inside for safety. She pulled out a small pile of silver jewelry, each a symbol of love in her eyes. She began to pick one up at a time, admiring each individually, moving them around in her hand and smiling at the noise they made. They made her feel a ridiculous sense of happiness, just knowing they existed. They were tributes to her love.
First, a bracelet. Ana had given her a silver bracelet for her birthday. It was a smooth chain, big enough to be noticed over the yellow rubber bands Emma usually had but small enough that it wouldn't be the first thing you noticed on her. Emma placed it on her thigh as she went to the next object, a chain necklace. At the end of the chain was a locket, one that contained a picture of Emma and Ana. The picture had changed often, Emma liked to update it whenever she could. This time it was a picture of the two holding each other and smiling. Something professionally taken, of course. Emma spared no expense. The outside was proof of this, with symbols of cherries and roses intertwining showing how unique it was. Emma had it custom made, one for her and one for Ana. Placing it on her other thigh, she began to eye the third and fourth objects were a pair of piercings. One silver and adorned with a yellow sapphire gemstone. The other similar but with a ruby. Emma didn't wear either too often, mostly because Ana had a problem with getting anywhere close to Emma's lips when there was one inside. The yellow sapphire was all for Emma, the ruby was for Ana. She planned on busting that one at out to see if Ana would change her stance. It was a possibility, but something she didn't see happening. It was worth a try none the less.
Emma gathered her jewelry and shoved them back in her pocket. Moving her attention to her left hand, her eye was drawn to a gold ring with a small ruby wrapped around her ring finger. It was a promise ring Ana had gifted Emma. In return, Emma had gotten a tattoo on her right hand of a heart with her love's name written in a neat cursive. Then, just to top it off, Emma, in an admittedly drunken stupor, decided to add a single red highlight down her long dark brown hair. She had apparently called Ana, still drunk, and told her it was something that showed that "she was hers". It was an odd and weird thing, but Ana was never the one to take Emma's weirdness as anything but adorable.
Emma straightened her beanie and bangs, hoping to look acceptable as she came back to see Ana. Not that she was ever awake, mind you. But it was something Emma had made a habit of doing. Even if always ended with some cuddling with her for twenty minutes. Standing up, Emma grabbed the hatchet she used for cutting wood and walked up to a nearby tree. She hasn't been able to find twigs or any good pieces of wood lately. But Emma had been making due with hacking a couple pieces of bark or smaller branches off trees. Readying the hatchet in hand, Emma delivered a few blows to the tree in a semi-vertical motion, breaking off pieces of bark with the blade of the hatchet when she was able. Emma a ended up with a small pile of wood. Nothing to write home about, but the leftovers at the camp more or less would handle their last night there.
Emma began to make her way back, following a trail that days of walking had eventually made. Emma had decided not to look for wood to burn today, as they already had excess amounts from before. It only took a minute to get to the campsite. Tossing the wood in the pile next to the place of the fire itself, she took in a view of the grounds they had been sleeping in.
The site itself was fairly neat, most of it being set up collectively by Emma, Arina, and Bekka. The latter two being the ones who had been doing most of the work. Ad all of whom were either sleeping or missing. There were 5 tents set up in a neat circle around a campfire, and a bathroom set up by the people who owned the area, for campers. At least, that was Emma's assumption. She knew Ana wouldn't go camping without an actual bathroom, as shitty as it was. The various backpacks and luggage were placed next to each tent, so everyone could keep track of them. Emma and Ana's tent had the most bags. Not due to the fact that theirs had two people. But because Ana had brought as much as possible. It made packing the bags into the cars into a Tetris game. A boring one, too. But, luckily, Emma had gotten Sam to let Bekka drive his car. So things went a lot easier because of that. Throwing suitcases in the back and keeping them down with bungie cords worked very well.
Emma gingerly skipped her way to her tent. She placed the freshly cut wood on the floor next to her tent. She got inside the tent as stealthily as she could, a wide smile plastered on her face, ready to pounce on her girlfriend. Slipping inside quickly and silently, her eyes caught up to the form of her best friend turned girlfriend. Ana was wearing her favorite pajamas, giving Emma wider eyes than usual. A hello kitty tank top that hung just above her navel and a pair of hello kitty themed underwear, something that came with a pair of extreme short shorts. Emma knew this from the slumber parties they usually spent together. But ever since they had started dating, she managed to find some way to wear less clothing when she slept near Emma. It was quite the gift, one that usually left Emma's cheeks a burning pink. Emma took a deep breath before hopping on top of Ana, straddling her, knees planted on each side of her waist. Ana's expression, of course, was confusion.
"Good morning!" Emma's voice rang out as she delivered a swift kiss to the still surprised Ana. She pulled back and looked down at her girlfriend, who's eyes had only just opened, if only slightly, and showed a sign of displeasure. "Ready to get up?! It's the last day!" Emma asked, grinning like a crazy person. She always enjoyed messing with Ana. Ana, however, responded with a shove to which Emma found herself on her side of the tent. Ana turned back around and pushed her head into the pillow. "Five more minutes..." Her muffled voice mumbled, the raggedness of her voice showing how clearly tired she was.
Emma sighed, a frown on her face. "You big liar. 5 minutes is, like, an hour for you." Emma lied down on her side of the tent, crossing her arms. "Fine, then. Ugh." Turning on her side, she wrapped her arms around Ana, delivering a kiss on the cheek. "You're so lucky that I love cuddling." Emma always felt safe, warm, and happy with Ana. Especially when they embraced. Even if she was far too tired to do much, Ana showed her own appreciation by lifting her face out of her pillow to lock eyes with Emma. Ana's lips curled into a smile as she scooted closer to Emma, using her free arm to softly run a hand across her cheek. "I love you so much..." Emma trailed off, enjoying the warm sensation from the love of her life's palm. "I love you too, dear." Ana's voice slipped into it's lovely Russian accent, the one that she never seemed to notice but Emma adored beyond what she regularly should.
"5 minutes only. Okay?" Emma told Ana, closing her eyes slowly and pulling Ana in a little closer, enjoying the moment as much as she could before the '5 minutes' was up.
